Today I want you to tell about the next release of the OS(Operating System) which I boot into every time I turn on my computer. Yes, you all guessed it right (if you haven’t already, here it is), its Ubuntu(Linux). I am currently booting Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) with Unity.
Its next release is Ubuntu 11.10 named Oneiric Ocelot. Its naming was announced on 7 March 2011 by Mark Shuttleworth. He explained that Oneiric means “dreamy”. Ubuntu 11.10 is scheduled for stable release on 13 October 2011. It will be Canonical’s 15th release of Ubuntu. Its (both Desktop and Server) updates will be supported till April 2013.
To know more please visit Ubuntu’s official website and the wiki page. Ubuntu can be downloaded free from this download page.
The countdown begins here : http://www.thisisthecountdown.com

Hi all,
Java SE 7 is officially released today i.e. July 28, 2011(07.28.2011)! After nearly five years of collaboration within the worldwide Java community, Java Platform, Standard Edition is ready for download! It’s an important step in Java’s evolution.
The major features of Java SE 7 are:
• Project Coin- many small language changes that add up to a big boost in productivity for developers
• The Fork/Join Framework - facilitates parallelism for mulit-core processors
• The New File System API (NIO.2) – provides the ability to perform many basic file system operations natively
• InvokeDynamic – makes it easier to run other languages on the JVM
To learn more about these features, you can view the technical presentations from Oracle’s global event on July 7.

Hi all,
If you want to add xfce/KDE desktop environment to your Ubuntu(Gnome), that can be done using following steps-
1. Go to System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager.
2. Click search and write xubuntu-desktop/kubuntu-desktop and search.
3. Check Mark for installation and then click Apply
This will install xubuntu-desktop/kubuntu-desktop to your Ubuntu system.
To login to xfce or KDE environment change the session on the main Log-on screen.
I have three desktop environments(Gnome(default), xfce and KDE) on my Ubuntu 8.04 system.
Enjoy all environment.

Hi all,
The new version of Ubuntu is going to be released on October 10, 2010 (10/10/10) by Canonical Ltd. The Ubuntu 10.10 version which has been named Maverick Meerkat has a lot of features. As the version number signifies, hope that it comes out to be 10 out of 10. If you want to know Technical overview of this version of Ubuntu, you can find it here.
If you want to download Ubuntu, you can download from the Ubuntu website here. Or you can request Ubuntu CD from here.
I think this version of Ubuntu will attract more users to migrate from other OSs to Linux. Hope you all who have not used Linux before will try this and enjoy the experience.

Manohar Bhattarai
